(The Hosting News) – Despite having just implemented new security features to protect against malware, social networking site Facebook has been hit with a new flurry of spam attacks.
Last week, Facebook added a feature that is supposed to warn users when they are about to click on a link that results with the user’s account becoming compromised and spamming friends’ walls.
Such spam attacks are known as cross-site scripting (XXS).
Despite the recently added protection, the new feature failed to properly alert users as new spam spread across the social networking site.
The new malware included spam posts that link to an online survey, which clicking upon only results in spreading the new spam messages to friends’ walls.
One new spam message claims it allows users to see how many people have viewed their profile and another that states, “Facebook now has a dislike button! Click ‘Enable Dislike Button’ to turn on the new feature!”
When contacted by tech site CNET, Facebook spokesperson Fred Wolens pointed out that spammers are picking up on new methods as the site changes their security features. Wolens also referred to the latest spam developments as an arms race between Facebook and the spammers.
