(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) --Web hosting provider and domain registrar Go Daddy (http://www.godaddy.com/) announced on Wednesday that it has officially launched its 4th Generation cloud-based hosting.
This launch comes a month after Go Daddy announced its highly anticipated acquisition by KKR, Silver Lake and Technology Crossover Ventures. Though the deal is not completed yet, the strategic investment is reported to be in the range of $2 billion.

A report by GigaOm last month speculated Go Daddy's cloud hosting would launch in July though it called the service "Data Center on Demand."

Accodring to the press release, Go Daddy was "in the cloud before the term was coined" but 4GH is the next level of cloud services.

Go Daddy is a household name for domain registration and web hosting but this is the company's first major step into the cloud space. The huge demographic of customers that Go Daddy reaches will likely ensure high adoption, especially considering it already has 9.4 million customers and manages more than 49 million domain names.

In February 2010, Go Daddy launched cloud-based Mac OS X web hosting.
Accodring to the press release, Go Daddy was "in the cloud before the term was coined" but 4GH is the next level of cloud services.

Go Daddy says its cloud hosting offering is a result of customer feedback and demand for more scalability than shared hosting providers.

Customers using 4GH receive proprietary dynamic traffic management, dynamic defense management and dynamic server management are equipped with "near-enterprise level" service, according to Go Daddy.

Currently, 4GH hosting offers no support for Java, ColdFusion and FrontPage Extensions. It also does not support streaming video, email hosting or multiple clients like cPanel or Parallels Plesk Panel's client configuration though it allows for multiple domains to be hosted on the same account. It also does not support Microsoft Access database.

"4GH was created to help our customers succeed," Go Daddy CEO and founder Bob Parsons said in a statement. "For example, a customer would be mentioned on Oprah or CNN and suddenly their web server had more traffic than it was designed to handle. We'd quickly move them to a dedicated server to protect them, along with our other shared hosting customers. It was like an epiphany - we needed a new platform that could react immediately. You could say, with 4GH our customers who suddenly find themselves in the limelight won't miss their '15 minutes of fame.'"

According to a report by Data Center Knowledge, Go Daddy automatically scales capacity at no additional cost and does not charge for additional bandwidth, unlike its competitors.
The plans start at $4.99 per month for an economy version. The deluxe plan is $7.99 per month or the ultimate plan is $14.99 per month.

Go Daddy says its 4GH web hosting is backed by its 24/7 "Site Defenders" team that prevents cyber attacks and detects website vulnerabilities.
