Certificate Authority Comodo Releases Free E-commerce Site Scanning Tool

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Certification Authority Comodo (http://www.comodo.com/) announced on Thursday it has launched the Beta release of Comodo SSL Analyzer (https://sslanalyzer.comodoca.com/), an e-commerce website scanning tool which instantly summarizes web server security levels.  
Intended for consumers and website owners, the free tool provides important information regarding the security level of any e-business.
Ultimately, the tool seems to be a way for Comodo to promote the use of certificates among website owners, and help to create a better understanding of the benefits of having an SSL certificate.
When visiting the page, users will be prompted to type a domain name into the search field. Once the domain is entered, the SSL Analyzer will visit the domain and retrieve fast, comprehensive information about the SSL certificate and web server software.

This information includes the validation level of the certificate, the strength of the digital signature and the number and type of enabled security protocols/cipher suites supported by the web server.

In essence, it provides a more detailed version of the SSL certificate-enabled address bar featured on a web browser.

The SSL Analyzer highlights insecure elements that need immediate remediation in red, those elements that have an adequate level of security are in green, and an amber color means there is a potential issue that should be evaluated by the web server administrator.

"Information is power, and the more information customers have about the level of their protection the better off they will be," said Melih Abdulhayoglu, Comodo CEO and chief security architect.
