(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Cloud computing service Amazon Web Services (aws.amazon.com) may be opening up to three new data centers in Sydney, according to a new report from The Australian, according to a report by The Australian.

The company has been rumored to be scouting the market for data centers that have an efficient energy efficiency as oppose to just offering a large capacity.

AWS is said to be looking for at least two data centers in the same city, partnering with other companies to get a first-mover advantage over its fellow American competitors considering the cloud computing market in Australia.

The report said that an AWS spokesperson declined to comment on the validity of the rumors, although she admitted the company is planning to expand in different areas around the world.
AWS first entered the Australian market last April when it began offering cloud services out of its Singapore data hub.

The company is expected to partner with a local data center operator. Insiders have speculated this may include Equinix since the company has already partnered with AWS in other markets, but the data center has declined to comment on its AWS relationship.

Equinix recently opened its third data center in Sydney, and is currently considering locations in Melbourne.
