Dell to Acquire Data Center Networking Firm Force10 Networks

Force10's website notifies customers of Dell's intention to acquire the company
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Dell (http://www.dell.com/) announced on Wednesday that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire data center networking provider Force10 Networks (http://www.force10networks.com/). Dell says it has had a successful partnership with Force10 for more than six years. The terms have not been released.
According to the press release, Force10's networking solutions will support Dell's data center portfolio and enable the company to offer its customers a broad range of enterprise offerings.

“Today’s datacenter networks are too complex and require too much manual intervention. What worked in the past is no longer viable in the virtual era,” Brad Anderson, senior vice president, Enterprise Solutions Group, Dell stated. “Dell’s approach of offering customers open, capable and affordable solutions aligns with Force10’s approach to offering customers new levels of flexibility, performance, scale and automation which is fundamental to changing the economics of data center networking.”

Dell says it has taken "significant steps" over the past few years to expand its enterprise portfolio. In May, Dell's president for Greater China and South Asia Amit Midha said Dell is interested in buying "everything around data centers."

Force10 is nearly a $200 million company, according to the press release. The company operates in more than 60 countries worldwide though it says 60 percent of its business is in North America.

“We are excited to work with Dell. Combining Dell’s global scale, reach and enterprise portfolio with our innovation in high-performance networking provides our customers the best end-to-end solution for today’s and tomorrow’s data centers,” Henry Wasik, chief executive officer, Force10 Networks said in a statement.

Dell says it is committed to maintaining and growing Force10's channel program in the same way it did with past acquisitions of Compellent and EqualLogic.

Founded in 1999, Force10 is headquartered in San Jose with research and development operations based in Silicon Valley. Dell says it plans to keep Force10’s existing operations in Chennai, India as well.
