(The Hosting News) – This year has seen a large amount of cyber breaches worldwide and there’s a new one to add onto that.

Detailing the U.S.’s global cyber strategy, William J. Lynn III, Deputy Defense Secretary admitted on Thursday that the Pentagon faced a major security breach in March.

Breaching twenty-four thousand files, the attack was said to have originated from a “nation state.” Meanwhile, further details were not revealed. The latest revelation comes at a time when the U.S. is stepping up efforts to combat global cyber threats.

It was recently revealed that DARPA, a research project arm of the Pentagon was working to construct a virtual replica of the internet to test solutions concerning cyber defense.

Global cyber-attacks have made major headlines in the past. U.S. contractor Lockheed Martin faced a breach on its system originating from an unknown source in May. It was also recently confirmed that a global cyber-attack on Google’s Gmail service originated from China.
