(The Hosting News) – Several sites belonging to the Brazilian government temporarily faced downtime after being breached by hackers on Wednesday, according to a report from Reuters.
The downtime on Wednesday lasted for over two hours and involved sites of the Brazilian president, the country’s tax agency and the government. However, the sites are now back up.
Despite the breach, a representative of the Brazilian government said that no data was stolen.
Meanwhile on Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that a site belonging to the Brazilian statistics agency faced downtime. Hacker group Fail Shell has already taken responsibility for Friday’s attack.
According to reports, the hacked site read, “This month, the Brazilian government will suffer the highest number of virtual attacks in its history. These attacks are a way of protest of a nationalist group that desires to transform Brazil into a better country.”
The attacks are just the latest in online breaches worldwide. Most recently, hacking group LulzSec has breached sites belonging to Sony, PBS, an FBI affiliate, the CIA, and Nintendo.
