(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider HostGator (http://www.hostgator.com/) is set to hire approximately 250 employees in Austin over the next 12 months, according to a report Thursday by the Statesmen.

This announcement comes two weeks after HostGator launched its unlimited shared Windows hosting plans.

HostGator first announced its plans to expand to Austin in May 2010, promising to initially hire 200 indivduals.

According to the the report, the web hosting provider has already hired about 280 people for its Austin operations.

HostGator chief marketing officer Taylor Hawes told the Statesmen that the positions include systems administration, technical support and field representative.

The company says it initially occupied 30,000 square feet of office space, but is expanding to fill out the 100,000-square-foot building.

HostGator says it did not receive any incentives from the City of Austin, and picked the city over Chicago and Orlando.

Hawes says HostGator has hired an additional 350 people at its Houston data center, where the company is headquartered, this year, bringing its total workforce to about 815 people.

Jobs appear to be abundant in the Web hosting sector in Austin. In May, Texas colocation company Data Foundry (http://www.datafoundry.com/) held a job fair in Austin. The company is set to open its 250,000-square-foot data center in June. The facility will be the first in its 40-acre Data Ranch campus in Austin.

Recently, colocation provider CyrusOne announced its expansion into Austin with a new 72,000 square foot data center.
