(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed hosting provider Savvis (http://www.savvis.net/) announced on Thursday that its subsidary Savvis Federal Systems has won a $9.8 million, five-year base contract by the US Federal Election Commission (http://www.fec.gov/).
This announcement follows the acquisition of Savvis by telecommunications carrier CenturyLink (http://www.centurylink.com/) in April. The deal was valued at $2.5 billion.
According to the press release, Savvis will provide colocation, managed hosting, security and network services, as well as professional services in two Savvis data centers.
Prior to this announcement, Savvis Federal Systems had a five-year delivery order with the FEC in March 2006. The latest contract was awarded after a competitive bidding process via GSA eBuy with other GSA IaaS vendors.
"Savvis Federal Systems is uniquely positioned to support federal agencies as they expand government relations into online, interactive channels," David Shacochis, vice president, global public sector at Savvis said in a statement. "We are excited about the opportunity to support the FEC with a flexible and scalable solution for application hosting and data protection."
In October 2010, Savvis was awarded a contract by the GSA along with 10 other companies to provide IaaS solutions to federal, state and local government organizations.
In May, the government of San Francisco moved its email systems to cloud-based Microsoft Exchange Online.
