(The Hosting News) – Perhaps a little motivation was all they really needed, even if it took a large phone hacking scandal involving the media to bring LulzSec out of retirement.
New reports have indicated that the hacking group has returned to action with an attack on News Corp owned British tabloid newspaper The Sun.
Upon the breach, LulzSec apparently succeeded in linking the newspaper’s website to Lulzec’s Twitter account and also posted a fake news report falsely reporting the death of News Corporation’s owner, Rupert Murdoch.
Following the attack, LulzSec posted on their Twitter account, “We have owned Sun/News of the World – that story is simply phase 1 – expect the lulz to flow in coming days.”
As you’re probably aware, News Corporation is currently embroiled in the UK phone hacking scandal and closed their British News of the World tabloid newspaper due to the accusations. The breach took place a short time before News Corporation owner Rupert Murdoch and his son James Murdoch were due to testify before the British Parliament.
News Corporation operates various top media outlets worldwide including the New York Post, Dow Jones & Company, 20th Century Fox, British Sky Broadcasting and a lot more.
LulzSec began gaining attention only a few months ago with breaches on sites belonging to Sony, the U.S. Senate, the CIA, an FBI affiliate, and more. The group had initially announced their disbandment in late June. Their absence had meant a higher profile for fellow hacking group Anonymous who claimed some LulzSec Members had joined them following LulzSec’s disbandment.
